"and this is Brenden, the one born on the floor..
i just got finished watching a baby story on TLC today..because it was the most exciting episode i seen yet...
normally the show is good (mentioned in the my first post of all things RN) but pretty predictable..parents briefly explain how they met..they talk about how they're so excited for the baby to come..family members get some shine as well..then the birth is glimpsed over in the true tv fashion..you don't hear most of the screaming (all though there are some screamers now and then)..the exact amount of fluids expelled is not shown ( i understand, some things the regular viewer not really interested in health/medicine just doesn't want to see..and blood, amniotic fluid and placenta fall under that category)..and of course the va jay-jay or birth canal is blurred if the camera happens to catch a part of it..
but i, a soon to be RN, have seen a live birth (both spontaneous vaginal delivery and cesarean section) in all it's glory and beauty.. i have seen the extraordinary amount of fluid loss during and after delivery while holding a leg up..i've seen the doctor stitch up a tear..i've seen and played with 2 placentas (which is pretty cool i tell ya)..i've seen many a va jay-jay during my routine postpartum examinations... so give me the HARDCORE stuff...please...
anywho...so as i was watching this particular episode..the particular routine of the show was cut short by the mom( a mother of a 4 and 1 year old about to deliver twins. God bless her) calling her doctor..her water broke..she had bloody show..all clear signs that baby is COMING..but she was at home in her kitchen..as soon as she got off the phone with the doc...she practically fell to the floor and her body was naturally pushing out the first baby..with her pants still on.. and she gave birth to the first baby right there on the kitchen floor..
she's a multip(not her first child) so births following the first baby usually go quicker..so this wasn't a surprise to me..but she was having twins.. so it made the situation more exciting because it's rare now adays for twins to be born vaginally.. so my attention was on how was the second baby going to come out after the first was delivered right there on the kitchen floor.. it's intriguing but very DANGEROUS for both mother and baby (babies in this case)..(infection/respiratory distress for baby... bleeding for mom)...
with out further adieu..911 came..suctioned the first baby and got baby breathing.. mom and
baby went to the hospital..mom had second baby safely in the hospital while first baby was monitored in the NICU... both mom and babies came out of the situation safely....and they lived happily ever happy...(well she got that natural birth that she wanted)
gotta love ob nursing ;)
p.s. glad mom decided that the buck ended with those twins..i hoped she got a tubal...or hubby got snipped..
